What is “the hundred war” The Hundred Years' War was a conflict between England and France that lasted from 1337 until 1453. It was a war that was both medieval and modern in its origins. Its medieval origins stemmed from English feudal claims in French territory. These claims dated back to the eleventh century when William the Conqueror left Normandy to invade England. Another medieval origin lay in the personal ambitions of the English and French kings to gain glory in victorious battles. Through Terry Deary’s Book, “France” England and France fought ‘The Hundred years war’ from 1337-1453…and if you’re any food at sums you’ll know that’s 116 years! And they weren’t fighting very much during those 116 years either. Terry Deary is wrong because there were many battle during “THE HUNDRED YEARS’ WAR”. During the war the English kings' continuing claim to territories in France and the efforts of the French crown to push them out; English support for the Flemish rebellion against French rule; and a succession crisis when both English King Edward III and the new French King Philip Valois (Philip IV) both claimed to be the rightful successor to the French Capetian King Charles IV died without an heir. The war took place entirely in France, and contributed to the loss of lives and farmland Source http://www.middle-ages.org.uk/battles-timeline-one-hundred-years-war.htm http://www-student.unl. edu/cis/hist100w05/online_course/unit2/lsn08-tp04.html http://facstaff.bloomu.edu/mhickey/late_middle_ages.htm Terry Deary’s “Horrible histories; France”
